1. What is ASN
An advanced shipping notice (ASN) is a document that provides detailed information about a pending delivery.
2. Purpose of an ASN
The purpose of an ASN is to notify the customer when shipping occurs and provide physical characteristics of the shipment so the customer can be prepared to accept delivery.
3. Use of an ASN
1). An ASN, which is usually sent over the Internet in an electronic data information (EDI) or extensible markup language (XML) format, provides information about when an order will be shipped, which items are being shipped, how many of each item is being shipped and physical characteristics about the shipment such as the shipment’s weight, the number of boxes and a description of how the shipment units are packaged.
2). An ASN also tells the customer which mode of transportation is being used for shipping and provides carrier information.
4. ASN in WMS
As a fulfillment center, we help customers to stock the inventory and ship products worldwide, Before the stock arrived in our facility our team has to know what is pending for inbound, in that case, our WMS user will need to create a notification to inform our team and our system what is going to stock in our facility. This will make everything fluent and correct, as our team already knows before it comes to our warehouse. They just need to scan the barcode on the cartons and then know those products belong to which WMS user.
